Dr. Emanuel (“Manny”) Lauria, CSMC, CSDRM is managing partner of Connected Risk Solutions based in Atlanta. Connected Risk is a specialty property and casualty insurance wholesale broker and risk advisor dedicated to serving the needs of the healthcare industry nationally. He also leads the Connected accident & health reinsurance division, which provides reinsurance and data analytics to managed and value-based care organizations.
Manny has over 30 years of healthcare P&C underwriting, risk management and brokerage experience, He was a managing director at Marsh McLennan and Wells Fargo Insurance Services (now USI, Inc.), and chief client officer of the global claims management firm, Crawford & Company. His client base includes major urban and rural hospitals, large health systems, physician groups, long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical companies, life science firms, health plans and managed care organizations. Manny’s deep product line knowledge spans medical professional liability, management liability, cyber coverage and stop-loss reinsurance, and from conventional to complex alternative risk financing structures.
He has earned a Doctor in Business Administration degree from Georgia State University, where he was awarded the first Huebner Foundation Executive Fellowship for his innovative research into enterprise risk management. That work led to the publication of his latest book, Strategic Risk Management – New Tools for Competitive Advantage in an Uncertain Age, and a contribution to the second edition of Enterprise Risk Management: Today’s Leading Research and Best Practices for Tomorrow’s Executives. He is an instructor in the university’s Robinson College of Business, and past chair of its GSU Risk Management Foundation. He holds a BA in Economics from Villanova University, a certification in Strategic Decision and Risk Management from Stanford University and is a HFMA Certified Specialist in Managed Care. Manny is also on the board of directors of the Managed Care Risk Association, whose mission is to inform and educate the association’s members around critical issues facing the industry.
While there are numerous aphorisms one may follow in the world of insurance brokerage, Manny believes that these three are indispensable: first, work hard to understand your client’s business and what matters most to them; second, go the extra mile to provide fresh perspective and options; and third, respond quickly and thoroughly, even on the small issues…each one is a relationship building block.
An avid musician (electric bass – the coolest band instrument) and chef (anything Italian, in particular), Manny resides in Fayetteville, GA with wife Geri, three children and two dogs.
